Gaming can make a better world?

written by Gary Weeks on 19.3.10

We have all read the negative press that comes with gaming and the outcry of naivety about the subject has reached dizzying heights. The Daily Mail and certain politicians are quick to slam the violence in videogames and how they affect the minds of the weak, putting the industry and our hobby into a negative light.  But what if gamers, their psychology and mentality can be channelled to solve real world problems?  It sounds a bit bizarre, right?  Well in a keynote speech by Games Designer, Jane Mcgonigal, she explains how that maybe able to come about.

She, in fact, encourages you to want to game more to “save the planet” and although the beginning of the video shown below sounds really leftfield to the point where I thought it was a spoof I thought she came up with some very thought provoking information backed up with years of research to show that this may be possible.

Makes you think, huh!  Does she have a point here?  Let us know what you think.
