Game On for 2011

Many describe 2010 to be a great year for gaming with the introduction of a few new IPs and with the launch of Microsoft’s Kinect and Sony’s Playstation Move.
However to some 2010 merely scratches the surface in terms of quality titles. With 2008 being an incredible year in gaming how will 2011 shape up to be? Lets take a look at what games you should keep on your radar.
DC Universe online (RPG – PC/PS3) Due out in January

A fantasy online role playing game developed by Warner Brothers is a PC and PS3 Exclusive. Players get a chance to build their own characters and battle it out online alongside or against DC superheroes.
Little Big Planet 2 (Platformer – PS3 Exclusive) Due out in January

Media Molecule’s sequel to their 2008 hit. Again gamers have the tools to ‘play, create, share’ levels beyond their wildest imaginations. MM have also promised gamers more levels and Move support.
Dead Space 2 (3rd person Sci-Fi FPS – Xbox 360, PS3, PC) Due out in January

EA’s follow up to their 2008 sci-fi survival horror game. Improved visuals, a new multi-player mode and a more in-depth zero gravity experience. Dead Space 2 is sure to separate the men from the boys.
Portal 2 (Sci-Fi FPS – Xbox 360, PS3, PC/MAC) Due out in February

Valve creators of popular IPs such as the Half-Life and the Left 4 Dead series are back having worked on a fully-fledged sequel to its award winning, mind bending puzzle action game. However this time around you have the added element of 2 Player co-op play. This will have you both scratching your head for hours.
Marvel vs Capcom 3 (2D Fighting – Xbox 360, PS3) Due out in February

After a decade away, Capcom are putting a fresh coat of paint on this popular title. It promises to have more characters, new moves and an easier style of play option that will encourage new players to join the world of fighting games. This will definitely be a treat for fans of the series as well as newcomers alike.
Killzone 3 (Sci-Fi FPS – PS3 Exclusive) Due out in February

With Killzone 2 being very successful a lot of hype is being surrounded around Killzone 3. With less clunky controls, new weapons, jet packs, 3D and Move support this is surely to be an experience that cannot be missed.
Bulletstorm (Sci-Fi FPS – Xbox 360, PS3, PC) Due out in February

EA is publishing a new over the top shooter developed by Epic games. Awarding the player points by the way they wish to dismember their foes and with the inclusion of a four-barrelled shotgun, things will most definitely get messy.
Fight Night Champion (Sports: Boxing Xbox 360, PS3) Due out in March

Button controls are back with added one hit knockouts and a larger roster of fighters including the likes of the Hayemaker himself. This will either make you a champ or make you hang your head down in shame.
Homefront (Modern FPS – Xbox 360, PS3, PC) Due out in March

A very powerful story driven first person shooter set in the year 2027 that focuses more on a cinematic character driven experience. Written by John Milius the co-writer of films such as Apocalypse Now and Red Dawn. Homefront tells the tale of nuclear-armed North Korea invading the US.
Crysis 2 (Sci-Fi FPS – Xbox 360, PS3, PC) Due out in March

First person shooter Crysis is back but this time around away from the jungle and in the heart of New York City. Powered by CryEngine 3 this game will not only be stunning but will also allow you to blast your buddies off the top of skyscrapers.
LA Noire (Adventure – Xbox 360, PS3) Due out in March

Rockstar Games are creating a brand new IP based around a film noir-style detective thriller. This game draws a lot of elements from the 1940’s visuals and styles and is sure to be another blockbuster hit for Rockstar.
Brink (Sci-Fi FPS – Xbox 360, PS3, PC) Due out in March

Set in a dystopian future, Brink visuals are unique to the first person shooter world. The campaign is built online, where players can customize their characters and battle it out against one another.
Mortal Kombat (2D Fighting – Xbox 360, PS3) Due out in April

Mortal Kombat makes a U-turn and comes back to its original Mega Drive form, with 2D gameplay, gruesome fatalities and God of Wars protagonist Kratos being a playable character. This by far will turn stomachs inside out.
Infamous 2 (Action Adventure – PS3) Due out in July

An open-world PS3 exclusive, Infamous 2 puts you back in the shoes of Cole MacGrath. With his new badass look and incredible powers. The player will have him scaling rooftops, grinding electricity lines and wiping out enemies.
Gears of War 3 (3rd Person Sci-Fi shooter – Xbox 360) Due out in September

The final chapter of the Gears of War saga is upon us. Features a four-player co-op campaign, new playable characters and more hideous mutating enemies. GOW3 will definitely be a force not to be reckoned with.
Forza Motorsport 4 (Racing – Xbox 360) Due out Quarter 4 2011

From the award winning Forza 3, Forza 4 gives greasemokeys that simulator driving experience they have longed for. With Kinect support, Forza 4 takes you a step closer to driving your dream supercar.
Rage (Modern FPS – Xbox 360, PS3, PC/MAC) Due out Quarter 4 2011

From the creators of Doom, Rage is set in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Using the company’s new id Tech 5 engine this game will truly be mesmerizing. Packed with over the top driving sequences, RPG elements and shooting the crap out of mutants, this is the ultimate all in one experience.
Batman Arkham City (Fantasy Action Adventure – Xbox 360, PS3, PC) Due out Quarter 4 2011

From the very successful Batman Arkham Asylum. Warner Brothers are putting out all the stops making sure Arkham City is even better. Being Batman you will once again clash with the Joker and his rebels, using elements of force, gadgetry and stealth to captivate your foes.
Twisted Metal (Car Combat – PS3) Due out Quarter 4 2011

The longest running franchise on the Playstation history is back and exclusive on the PS3. An over the top adrenaline fueled car smash up. If you like guns and cars this game if for you. Battle it out on ground or take to the sky with helicopter battles. Whoever survives is victorious.
XCOM (Sci- Fi FPS – Xbox 360, PC) Due out Quarter 4 2011

Little is known about XCOM, however it is understood the game will be a suspense and mystery story set in the 1950’s. Drawn in are elements from the 1990’s PC strategy game but this time with a different twist. The player is part of a secret government agency put together to combat what appears to be an alien invasion.
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword (Fantasy Action Adventure – Wii) Due out Quarter 4 2011

The 16th installment in the Zelda franchise and finally a Wii title that’s worth shouting about. Departing from more traditional exploration, controls will differ making it heavily based on swordplay and allowing one-to-one motion control.
Metal Gear Solid Rising (Modern Action Adventure – Xbox 360, PS3, PC) Due out in Quarter 4 2011

The first ever Metal Gear game to feature on an Xbox. You play as Raiden the protagonist in MGS 2. This time however the approach is fast paced action with a mixture of sword fighting and stealth. There is also a feature that allows players to ‘cut and take’ dismembered body parts, breaking the barriers? I think so.
The Last Guardian (Fantasy Action Adventure – PS3) Due out in Quarter 4 2011

The latest game from creator Fumito Ueda, that brought you the stunning ICO and Shadow of Colossus. This game will share similar elements in thematic and gameplay to the previous titles. However the game continues to do what it does best with a mixture of action adventure, puzzles and story.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (Modern Action Adventure – PS3) Due out in Quarter 4 2011

Probably one of the most anticipated games on the PS3 and with Uncharted 2 having won numerous game of the year awards there is a great deal of hype surrounding this game. The game continues from Uncharted 2 but this time Drake’s on the search of a lost city. Set in the Arabian Desert, this game is sure to have more of the same but more awesome!
Mass Effect 3 (Action RPG – Xbox 360, PS3, PC) Due out in Quarter 4 2011

Last but certainly not least Bioware’s Mass Effect 3 is out at the end of the year. Some will argue this is most anticipated game of 2011. Again having won numerous awards at the VGAs, there is huge amount of excitement around Mass Effect 3 and sure looks like it will pack a punch. The final installment in the trilogy will again import decisions made in the previous two titles. Playing as Commander Shepard your only hope for saving mankind is to gather every civilization in the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back Earth.
And there you have it, to buy or what not to buy would obviously come down to what you feel is worth spending your hard earned cash on. 2011 looks is set to be another successful year in gaming. Will it take the crown from 2008? Lets wait, play and see.

Not to mention TDU2!!
I dont personally think 11 will top 10, which was better than 08 imho, but Gears3 and Forza 4 will keep me occupied along with TDU, so all good. PS3 users will love LBP2 and Killzone 3 I’m sure as well.

TDU 2 will be huge and should really be in there. Also, I think Elder Scrolls: Skyrim will go stellar too!

I think we forgot to mention Dirt 3 as well. They keep coming and coming. With all these releases I feel that 2011 could be really kick ass and bad for the bank balance.
