Guild Wars 2 closed beta gains respect

NCsoft and ArenaNet are proud to announce that signups for the next closed beta test for Guild Wars 2 reached one-million signups in just over 48 hours.

This impressive response from the gaming community, recording more than 4,000 signups a minute during peak periods, is testament to players’ demand for something new. The innovative RPG and online world design philosophies of Guild Wars 2 are proving to be just what they want.

It is no surprise that the most anticipated game launching this year, an accolade awarded to Guild Wars 2 from top gaming outlets from around the world, attracted players wanting to experience the game from 224 countries spanning all seven continents.

“We built Guild Wars 2 with the notion to bring players together to experience what a true online world experience should be, and we couldn’t be more excited with the reception we’re receiving from gamers wanting to get in and play our game,” said Mike O’Brien, president of ArenaNet and executive producer of Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 2’s next closed beta test is scheduled for late-March and will provide players with an opportunity to experience its deep RPG game elements, epic World vs. World battles and inviting social gameplay while helping the team load test the servers.

EA and Maxis have announced that the beta for Darkspore on PC is coming and are asking for gamers to participate.

Darkspore is the upcoming online action RPG which will be released in 2011 on PC. Get your taste of this game by signing up for the beta at www.darkspore.com which you will be able to play later on this year.

As most of you may know, The Sunday night free-for-all matches have now ended, which has saddened many, cries and much wailing can be heard in remote places at the midnight hour, such is the loss felt.
Before I move on with the introduction, I’d like to thank Mr NickSaints for all his energy and input at setting up the free-for-all league. Thanks mate.

Brief Details

Sunday nights were something to look forward to, getting together to battle it out with other gamers you know from the MG community, was a real treat. Add in the fantastic MW2 multiplayer action and you had a recipe for fun, banter, noob tubes and claymores.

If you thought that the smaller maps gave you little opportunity to survive more than three seconds before getting spawn-killed, then you’ll like the less hectic pace of the new league.

The matches will remain relaxed affairs, can’t make it one evening, no worries; Not that great at MW2, no problem, all levels of ability are welcome.

The format will change slightly to hardcore team death match, with everyone being auto-assigned to a team at the start of each match, so whilst it’s one team against another, scoring remains on an individual basis as before, making the pace a little less frantic than the previous league.

EA to publish RPG ‘Project Mercury’

EA yesterday announced an agreement with 38 Studios, LLC to publish the company’s first video game, an epic single-player role-playing game codenamed ‘Project Mercury’.

38 Studios is the creative enterprise of World Series MVP and avid gamer Curt Schilling. ‘Project Mercury’ is being developed at Big Huge Games, a wholly-owned subsidiary of 38 Studios, under the leadership of Ken Rolston, former lead designer of the critically acclaimed hits, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The game marks the first entry into the company’s vast universe created by New York Times best-selling fantasy author R. A. Salvatore, with artistic direction by Todd McFarlane, renowned artist and creator of Spawn.

“From day one, 38 Studios has been focused on creating the next generation of entertainment experiences that embrace all mediums, including film, television, comics, novels, toys and, of course, games,” said Curt Schilling, Founder and Chairman of 38 Studios. “We are creating an enormous world, with heroes and villains and a rich back story from the brilliant minds of R. Command And Conquer 4 beta has begun

EA has announced this morning that the Command And Conquer 4 beta has started for all you RTS fans out there.The beta will allow you to play the new 5 vs 5 mode across 4 different maps. To sign up follow the link here.

“We could not be more excited to give fans a taste of what’s in store for Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight with the new multiplayer beta,” said Lead Designer, Samuel Bass of the beta.

“Players can expect the fast-paced strategic RTS action they’ve come to know and love in the Command & Conquer franchise augmented with new gameplay elements that really ratchet up the intensity, especially in our 5v5 multiplayer modes.”

Final Fantasy XIV beta sign ups open for EU

Square Enix are now starting to take applicants for the beta of 2010 release, Final Fantasy XIV.

This beta will also be open to North American and European applicants too so get over to the site and register you interest at Final Fantasy XIV’s official site.

The beta will be for PC only at this stage and all phases of the beta will be taken into consideration on one application. There will be a PS3 beta along at some point but no details are available for this.

Final Fantasy XIV is an MMO that will release in 2010. The interesting thing about the game is that Square have done away with the typical levelling systems to the RPG genre.

No date as yet to when the beta will start but if you’re accepted then I am sure you will hear the news pretty quickly.
