F1 2011 co-op championship mode announced

Codemasters has today released the third in its series of F1 2011 Developer Diaries.

The video features gameplay footage and reveals the new Co-op Championship mode that allows two players to drive for the same Formula One team in pursuit of the coveted FIA Formula One Constructors’ World Championship.

Available online, the Co-op Championship mode brings two friends together in the same team as they work together for the Constructors’ crown whilst also competing separately for the Drivers’ Championship title. This brand new feature for F1 2011 gives players a taste of the intense sporting and political rivalry that exists between drivers in Formula One teams as they balance personal glory and directing the development of the car in their favour with achieving team goals.

“Now when I look across the garage and see my team mate in there, I am not comparing myself against an AI team mate, I’m comparing myself against someone that I know personally,” said Chief Game Designer Stephen Hood. “I’m interested in who’s got the most points, who’s out-qualified me. It’s about trying to fight to be the leader of a team. It makes for a completely different experience, playing with a friend. It’s now a personal game mode.”

F1 2011 will challenge players to ‘be the driver, live the life, go compete’, with wide-ranging technical and gameplay advancements on and off track and vastly extended competitive and co-operative multiplayer components. Players will be able to race against 16 players online plus 8 AI cars to simulate a full 24 car grid, team up with a friend or enjoy multiplayer racing from the sofa in split-screen mode.

F1 2011 will feature all of the official teams, drivers and circuits from the highly anticipated 2011 FIA Formula One World Chamionship including the current FIA Formula One Drivers’ World Championship Sebastian Vettel. The 2011 season also sees the debut of the 2011 Formula One Airtel Grand Prix of India at Delhi’s Buddh International Circuit and the return of the iconic Nürburgring to the calendar.

Mortal Kombat national tournament launches

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announces tournament to find the nation’s hardest Mortal Kombat player with a final at the UK’s largest consumer electronics event, The Gadget Show Live, NEC
Mortal Kombat, published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developed by NetherRealm Studios, will be in the UK on April 17 for the final of the official Mortal Kombat Nationwide Tournament.

Taking place at the UK’s largest consumer electronics show, The Gadget Show Live, NEC, the final competition will be held in front of thousands of gamers at Mortal Kombat’s spectacular ‘Fight Arena’ stage in the Over 18 Gaming Zone. Players can enter by participating in qualifying rounds taking place from March 14^th through to April 4^th at various GameStation and GAME stores throughout the UK. The first prize is a full size Mortal Kombat arcade machine, containing PS3 console.

The ‘Fight Arena’ stage is set to be a huge draw at the event, allowing visitors to experience the bone-crushing, blood-spilling action on a massive HD projection screen. Even those who have not qualified for the final will be able to win spot prizes throughout the show as they do battle in the arena.

Both the UK and European finals will take place on Sunday 17^th April and will be hosted by GameFace TV presenter, Julia Hardy.

Pac Man Championship Ed DX gets 50% discount

O-Games have released a new trailer for the darts game of all darts games, PDC Championship Darts: Pro Tour which is now on sale.

You may well have missed the fact that the game has been released since the arrival of a spate of AAA titles over the last few weeks but you cannot deny that PDC Darts games have hit the spot over the past couple of years and still proves to be very popular.

This version of the game also supports Playstation Move as well as Wiimote Plus controllers as well as your standard controllers to offer a fluid throwing action as you step into the shoes of Phil “The Power” Taylor, Simon “Wizard” Whitlock amongst others in true PDC championship fashion.

The game released on Friday for PS3, Wii and 360 and is definitely worth considering as a little pressie for Daddy at Christmas.

F1 2010 will deliver authentic handling

The car handling in F1 2010, the forthcoming official game of the 2010 FIA F1 World Championship, will focus on simulation authenticity, developers Codemasters Studios revealed today.
“The preference has always been to go down the simulation path,” said Stephen Hood, Chief Games Designer, “You can make a realistic sim easier to play for somebody but it’s very difficult to take an arcade handling system and make that appeal to people who prefer simulation handling.”

Taking Formula One fans further behind the scenes of F1 2010, the ‘Handling’ developer diary also features new gameplay footage and former Formula One test driver Anthony Davidson, discussing the development team’s aim to create the “most authentic experience possible.”

In the developer diary, Anthony Davidson, who has been embedded into the team, explains the unique ‘twitchy’ way in which Formula One cars handle and how this is translated into authentic gameplay. His experience, combined with real world data and feedback from the teams, drivers and tyre manufacturers is enabling the F1 2010 team to bring alive the sensation of being an Formula One racing driver like never before. As in real life, aerodynamics plays a pivotal role in racing, and players will feel how cars can corner at extremely high speed yet perform very differently at lower speeds.

The game from renowned Italian developer, Milestone Studios, and published by Black Bean Games is now in its fourth generation and SBK X harnesses the thrills and exhilaration of this international racing series in bullet-fast, high-definition glory.

The Superbike World Championship™, also known as SBK, is the international racing series that features real motorbikes available in showrooms for Joe Public to buy. It’s this relevance to the everyday biker that has catapulted SBK’s popularity in the UK and other countries around the world since it began in 1988.

Motorbike racing as a videogame offers a radically different and spine-tingling challenge for players compared to car racing games. Remove the sure footing of four wheels, introduce sub-two-second 0-60 acceleration, tarmac flying past you at 180MPH, and you’ve got a taste of what’s in store.

The challenge for the developer has always been to digitally recreate what are essentially two purely analogue machines working in perfect unison: the rider and the bike.
