Game Frame – March 25th 2010

written by gazzara on 25.3.10

Well, after an absence that would make even a global terrorist look like he’s been on a weekend break in Bognor Regis, the Game Frame returns to wash away all those silly little rumours and try hard to compact all of the major day’s news into little bite-sized chunks.

It’s a bit like a 2 bar Dairy Milk, but without the calories or the wife noticing you’re not giving her a piece. Let’s crack on then.

Old people rejoice, the Patrician’s back to finish you off….

If you’re older than the required Noob Tube age, you’ll no doubt remember a trading game on the Amiga and ST called The Patrician. Well, Kalypso Media have announced that a fifth instalment of the series will be released on the PC in the Autumn of this very year, which is nice if you like that sort of thing.

The new story will take place during the Middle Ages and see you trading around the Baltic and North Sea areas by increasing your reputation from being a humble stall owner to a master of the oceans with trading routes and good savvy when negotiations are needed.

It’s being made by some of the original members of the Patrician team, albeit under a new name of gaming Minds Studios GmbH. Expect screenshots and more info later in the year.

Pure Football from Gerrard (just need to sort the rest of the team out now..)

It’s been announced that Steven Gerrard will be the face of Ubisoft’s Fifa Street styled game, Pure Football. When asked about the game he said he was “..proud to be the ambassador of Pure Football.”

Will it be one fun footy game too many? We’ll see what happens later in the year.

Mafia 2 release date announced

Well this one does exactly what it says on the tin, really. Mafia 2 (what Godfather 2 SHOULD have been, if you ask certain circles) will be available to buy as of the 27th of August. Those people lucky enough to be at the Penny Arcade Expo East in Boston, Massachusetts (March 26-28) will get a chance to get a first hands-on look at this up and coming gangster-fest, which promises to be a very cinematic and immersive experience.

We’ll look into the story of Vito and Joe as the year unfolds, which will hopefully culminate in a review. Watch this space.

That’s all the major stuff us old folks would find of interest for today, but don’t forget to let your feelings known about these games, as well as what you think about the new (well, for the most part anyway) Call of Duty: MW2 maps. Will you be getting them, or is it a case of playing Bad Company 2 until the price of them drop. Let us know in the forums.

Catch you all soon.
