Ending the CoD camping debate

A couple of nights ago I was happy to get a party invite from some of the guys from mature-gaming.com, to play Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2.There was six of us, with some of the usual suspects making up the numbers. Hardcore Team Death Match was the game mode that was chosen and our first map as far as I can remember, was ‘Skidrow’. What unfolded next was one of the most enjoyable team games I’ve ever played – EVER. I would like to share with you why this was a bit later, but first, I want to address this so-called issue of ‘camping’.
If you read through Call of Duty forums and many comments on video sites such as YouTube, it won’t take too long for you to hear all the ‘sniping’ (pardon the pun) and moaning, aimed at those who are ‘accused’ of camping. What follows is something that will illustrate and give some insight into the whole ‘camping’ debate.
Image if you will, a young man we’ll call Jonny. Young Jonny is only 19 and he loves playing MW2. He used to like sniping in maps that lent itself to that kind of gameplay, but Jonny’s friends used to accuse him of ‘camping’ and mocked him for not playing the game as they did – the ‘proper’ way.
Jonny later enlisted with the US marines, but that was a year ago and today, Jonny is dead, why? Because Jonny listened to his friends and ignored his commanding officer, and became an effin knowing it all, and when he got shipped out to Afghanistan, decided to take the lot on, running around like a poxy headless chicken, trying to shoot anything that moved. Jonny was shot by a well hidden sniper, ah the irony of it all.
Someone should have told Jonny that his mates “don’t know shit” and that ‘camping’ isn’t against the rules, it isn’t illegal, and in fact, the only people that bleat on about ‘camping’ are those that run around all day long, and end up getting shot by a ‘happy camper’.
Now on to the moral of this story and the point of this article; Our little party of gamers, took up various strategic positions on a single section of the map, close to our starting point. We covered the main ‘arteries’ of the map, we covered the various ‘sniping allies’ leading to where we were located, no one was getting into our area without us knowing it. We communicated well, we let everyone know what we saw, and where the enemy was, in short, they got massacred.
So it seems that clever people use ‘camping’ tactics and strategies in order to beat the enemy, and give them a good spanking. May there be many more such games.
