3D at E3

It’s no secret that there will be a lot of exposure given to 3D technology within games at this year’s E3 expo.
Nintendo will probably announce a new “DS 3D” hand-held, to help bolster falling sales, which may be in part due to market saturation, and for me, this is probably the only area we will see some ‘near future’ success with 3D technology.

There will probably be developers that are keen to show off some 3D tech at the show, but despite many developers having the sense that 3D has a big future market, not many see it as a mass market technology to be rolled out, at least for another 3-5 years.

I like the idea of 3D, but do I want to wear silly glasses for many hours at a time? probably not. Besides I and millions of others, wear prescription glasses, so the familiar red/green specs may not be an instant winner.

There is alternative technologies that side-step the need for wearing special specs, but that technology may well be too prohibitive in terms of expense, unless there can be standardised technology that can be incorporated into future flatscreen TV’s.

The future looks bright, the future look 3D
