Launched only in January, the two-year MA programme in Games Design and Development combines the existing NFTS expertise in character creation, storytelling, design, animation, sound, visual effects, and more, with the input of established and emerging games industry experts. It integrates three crucial game development disciplines: Game Design, Game Production and Game Art/Animation, allowing students to specialise where appropriate. Programming and scripting skills are also developed, so that students are equipped with a deep understanding of the entirety of the game development process.

BBC Worldwide is committed to investing in the future talent of this industry and has initially agreed to contribute funding towards four scholarships – two in the course’s introductory year and two next year. In addition two students each year will be given the opportunity to work on a placement at BBC Worldwide where they will not only work alongside BBC Worldwide’s Digital and Entertainment business, but also learn from experts in sales, rights and marketing so that they get a thorough understanding of the business.

Digital Entertainment and Games is currently one of BBC Worldwide’s fastest growing business areas. Through game app launches such as Doctor Who: The Mazes of Time or Top Gear: Stunt School – to more online and social MMO-orientated offerings like Strictly Keep Dancing and Doctor Who Worlds In Time, BBC Worldwide is continually offering fans of some of the BBC’s biggest programme brands globally the unique opportunity to interact with their favourite characters, storylines and fellow followers in ways never before possible.

Although only a relative newcomer to the Games business, BBC Worldwide has already taken 24 games to market in its first 2 years of business. Last year the company launched 11 games alone and a further 12 are currently in development.

The highly anticipated first-person shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines will, apparently, be in stores worldwide on February 12, 2013. As the authentic addition to the ALIENS franchise canon, the game’s stunning visuals and adrenaline pumping action will deliver breathtakingly immersive single, cooperative and competitive multi-player modes.

Providing for an innovative asymmetrical competitive multiplayer experience, Aliens: Colonial Marines lets players fight in first person as the ultimate combatants – the United States Colonial Marines, or in third person as the universe’s deadliest killers – the Xenomorphs. Plunging into familiar and new environments from the iconic film franchise, players will have to fight the fear and face the true horrors of the ALIENS universe.

Sega, as you may know, have had a major restructure following poor performances in the European and American markets which may have had a part to play in this title being held back.  That said, this title has been a long time coming and the thought of having to wait yet again may put a lot of people off.

Developed by critically acclaimed Cambridge based developer Ninja Theory in close collaboration with Capcom, DmC Devil May Cry will release for PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 on January 15 2013 in North America and Europe.

In addition, Capcom also confirmed that PC gamers will also be able to experience the title with the news that development of a Windows PC version is well underway with a release scheduled for later in 2013.

DmC Devil May Cry will be fully localised with voice talent in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian and in addition, Polish, Dutch, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese languages will be supported with localised text.
