Bungie release a statement regarding xbox live closure

Bungie has released a statement expressing their sadness for the loss of Halo 2 when the original live servers close in April.“Halo 2 fans take note – you have ten weeks left to play multiplayer games over Xbox LIVE before the service will be discontinued,” said the studio.”

“Microsoft has said that as of April 15 it will no longer be supporting the original Xbox console or software on Xbox Live. This also applies to original games being played on an Xbox 360.”

“We’re all saddened at the realization that an era is coming to an end but looking back, we’re incredibly fortunate to have had such a great run and such strong support from our fans,”

“Halo 2 has been at or near the top of the Xbox Live charts for original games since it launched over five years ago. We’re extremely thankful to everyone who has played, enjoyed and supported Halo 2 over Xbox Live. We’ve had some great fun together, including far too many humpday losses to even recount.

“That said, mark your calendars now – on April 14th let’s all rally to go online for one last hoorah. One final farewell and one final opportunity for all of you to kick our asses at Halo 2.”

Mature-gaming.com is also pretty sad about this closure as this was one of the games that initially built the foundations of what we have here today.  One of our original founders, Terry, said this about the closure “I have not played Halo 2 for a very long time but the thought of it going from live saddens me.  This is because it is down to Halo and more so Halo 2 that I know all of you.  It is the game that brought us to Xbox live and for a lot of us had a vast effect on our lives.  I for one will be forever grateful to Halo 2 for introducing me to Hippy who in turn introduced me to GAZ and 2old2 play which as we all know moved to where we are now I have made some really good friends and owe it all to Halo 2.”
